Quotes
- “I thought Carolina did a far better job than we in the big points. They played well when they were needed. I thought we did well, we were in a good place, but the scoreboard shows that we lost six of seven sets that were either 7-5 or 7-6. You won’t beat many teams by doing that. To me, this shows that they were mentally tougher than us in those moments. We were right there at the end and gave ourselves chances, but credit to their performance. They just played bigger points better than us.” – Duke head coach Jamie Ashworth
- “She’s (Iuliia Bryzgalova) been playing well for us the last couple of weeks and we need her to do that and keep playing well. She’s played many college matches, first at Penn, then here, and it’s great to see her playing her best in her Duke career.”– Duke head coach Jamie Ashworth
- “I told the students that we need to understand that our emotional and physical investment were both great today. We only have to mentally be present at each point. No matter who is on the other end of the net. I told them if there was one thing they could take from today’s game to take to the next few weeks, when Virginia and Virginia Tech are playing and then Notre Dame/Louisville is right after that, we need to have this mental commitment at every single point. Hopefully, we can accomplish that. We’ve gotten stronger as a group, our tennis has improved and our emotional level is higher. If we can get the emotional aspect going I told them that we can compete against anyone.” – Duke head coach Jamie Ashworth
Next Match
- Duke will continue playing in Durham. They will host another two home games. The Blue Devils are scheduled to host Virginia Tech at 5 pm on Friday, 4/5, and Virginia at noon on Sunday, 7/4. Both matches will take place either at the Ambler Tennis Stadium or Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
